Long before we brought Boomer home, we talked about getting a dog. And talked. For many months, we discussed as a family the pros and cons, the responsibilities, and the expense of owning a dog.
And boy did changes come. Life with a dog, especially a large breed, is never dull. Life with this guy requires commitment and patience. Lots of it.
He's big and loud and boisterous. To some, he seems really scary. Most people don't get to see the "softer" side of him, because when anyone approaches, Boomer immediately becomes the bodyguard. We didn't train him that way; it's just what he does. He protects us fiercely because he loves us fiercely. Unconditionally.
He's smart and stubborn and loves to play hard. But, Boomer is also gentle, loving and loyal. Always loyal. There's a reason for the expression "follows you around like a puppy dog"...because of dogs like Boomer. He's a goofy, graceful guy. And he's a beast. A big beautiful beast.
Our days with Boomer have been filled with many responsiblities. Like training and grooming and feeding and walking and...pardon me...even poop patrol{someone has to pick up those big "bombs" in the yard}. Days spent with this dog have been fun and not-so-fun...but every day has been a treasure.
Yes, our home and our days since Boomer's arrival have seen plenty of change. Some good changes, some bad, some ugly. But the best change of all? Each day with our boy {305 of them so far} brings us a crazy silly puppy love.
I snapped these photos of Boomer earlier today. He's happily chewing on a big-fat bone. A special treat because today is special. Today, our dog is a whopping one-year-old...yep, it's his birthday. Happy Birthday, Boomer boy! We love you more.

Boomer is a handsome one! We are also proud GDD owners; our Luna (now 1 1/2 yrs. old) brought a big change into our empty-nester home... yes, there is lots of work involved, the the unconditional love and loyalty we get in return is priceless. Thank you for your beautiful post! Happy Easter to you and your family :)_
